1. i bought some dipotassium edta from ebay (not expensive). I have been having it sublingually on and off for a couple of weeks and it seems to have brought about an improvement in energy - able to sleep less, and maybe an improvement in sentience/conciousness/clarity. Edta is a chelator so it removes heavy metals and calcification. I take about half a gram and hold it under my tongue for 20mins or as long as poss. Full detox takes quite a long time if indeed i do have excess heavy metals, or maybe i am seeing benefit from its general antioxidant effects.
2. blimey merkan, that is pretty hardcore keto, not much veg in there - you must have been shitting diamonds! Never heard of russian yoghurt before, greek is the best i can get (10% fat). I generally eat not much differently to normal, just replace spuds, rice etc with fibrous veg eg fry-up with boiled cabbage, fish with stir-fry veg, stew with buttered cauliflower.
3. Is/was your protein intake sensible, with lots of veg, or did you simply go nuts on meat and diary?
4. How long did you do it for? It can take a couple of days to a couple of weeks feeling shite before your body adjusts.
5. praps i should add that i dont find any benefit to hppd from ketosis but have gone reduced-carb for general health rather than strict keto for hppd.
6. Try and keep protein intake normal - keto is not a high protein diet. The aim is just to replace carbs with fats. Fibrous veg like leafy greens are low carb, whereas tubers and grains are high. Roots tend to be high but are more variable. Eat lots of low carb veg. Avoid most sweet fruit - tho berry's are ok, low sweet fruit like lemons are good. Eat plenty of virgin oils especially olive. Cream and butter are basically carbless and low protein. When eating protein, always get the high fat variety eg non-lean meat (and eat the fat), greek yoghurt, full fat cheese milk or cream. Organic meat has a better fat profile than normal, as well as ethical benefits. Xylitol is an ok sweetener for most things, and stevia is ok but is a bit bitter so better for things like coffee where this is disguised. Nuts tend to be good, especially almonds, hazels (peanuts, cashews less good), careful with brazils as they can be too high in selenium if you eat regularly. Keep water intake fairly high as there is a statistically higher risk of kidney stones. I make a bread substitute from flax seed that is nice, but not exactly bread - more of a savoury cake that you can eat like bread that is very filling, lots of omega 3, lignans, fibre etc. Ludwig has a recipe for sweet almond snack bar, and also can use almond flour or no flour to make cakes, or have creamy desserts like posset sweetened with xylitol or stevia. Get the Atkins book for carb info of individual foods, and dont be scared of atkins - the image that it is basically steak and butter is a media invention, and he stresses importance of veg consumption.
7. has anyone been in touch with nichols et al to try and twist their arm into researching gene expression in hppd? charles.nichols@vanderbilt.edu elaine.bush@mcmail.vanderbilt.
8. i think maybe so, but this seems strange given the good outcomes reported. People with tame doctors should try this stuff and report back, try and build up some evidence for people with less tame docs.
9. aka flunarizine. Im also keepin an eye out for this one.
10. i get it sometimes with a rushing ticklish accelerating buzzing sensation. It once ended in a brief out-of body. Massively reduced after takin nac, now only really if hungover and sleeping during the day, or, funnily enough, when i stop taking keppra. I remember pre-nac i kept a bottle of whiskey next to my bed just because pre-sleep anxiety/wierd rushing sensation would be so bad i would need a swig to calm me down. I forget sometimes how much nac has improved my life and how bad i was. I'm not scared of the sensations now, and although accompanied by a fairly sinister feeling, there is not the intense anxiety and loss of control.
11. If hppd is caused by epigenetic changes then it may alter what genes are switched on in your offspring, as these can be heritable. But if the gene expression changes are locally located in the brain and dont affect the zygotes (as is probable), then offspring will be unaffected. If hppd is a sign of genetic chemical sensitivity/neurological weakness then it may be an indicator that the foetus/child may be more likely to have some sort of damage if you have a chemical exposure or other stress, or more susceptable to hppd when exposed to drugs. For that reason a hppder should probably remain in touch with their offspring if there is a family break up (and avoid sperm donation) just so they can be made aware of their potential susceptibilities when inevitably they are exposed to drugs. My wife is due in october, keeping her well fed with micronutrients, and dosing her with acetyl cysteine (reduces miscarriage risk as well). She has taken hallucinogens before without hppd - hopefully i'm breeding out my susceptibilty!
12. maybe add guanfacine to your discussion list. good luck
13. there is some evidence (from chickens!) that stevia improves calcium metabolism. Given that high-dose vitamin d and magnesium seem to help too, which also affect calcium metabolism, maybe this is a clue. And flunarizine affects calcium.
14. Not exactly a medication, but stevia sweetener seems to have a bit of a brain-clearing effect. It is anti-oxidant so may be working with the other antioxidants i take. It's not a very nice sweetener, a bit bitter, so ok for coffee, but ruins tea.
15. although not licenced in the uk, i think it is still available on the nhs if doc thinks its worth it. He will just have to explain to you that it aint licenced and so you accept a higher level of risk. There may also be a delay as it wont be stocked in your local pharmacy but will need to be brought in. I may be wrong but this is how i understand it. I'll give it a try, but not likely i think (previous attempts at getting drugs not always successful). shaolin - i would encourage you not to restrain yourself from trying new treatments because you find disappointment too painful. You seem to get your hopes too high about anything you try then are inevitably disappointed. But the approach of this community really needs to be about throwing enough shit at a wall and maybe some will stick. Nothing ventured, nothing gained etc. If nothing happens, what have you lost? Nothing. Except maybe suffering some side effects. Keppra, sinemet, flunarizine - none of these are silver bullets but just have a chance of being of some benefit to some people. Once you appreciate that then you wont get your hopes high. Even if you cant control yourself being dissapointed, try the vipasana approach and just bear it with equanimity for the wider good. However you manage it, if you have access to flunarizine i would ask you to get some as not everyone here has a tame doc or other ways to get it so we need knowledge from people that do. Sorry for waffling.
16. i dont think it's lacing chemicals causing hppd. Mine was caused by clean self-picked magic mushrooms, tho as i say i may have had a pre-existing toxic condition. Toxins may just make your brain less able to process stuff or more vulnerable to stresses so make you more likely to get hppd.
17. that is wierd. So you have sick building persisting perception defect? If you are not part of the drug world, how did you make the connection with/come across such a niche problem as hppd? Just googling? I have thought that my hppd was predisposed by some toxic condition as i had terrible brain fog before taking mushrooms which gave me hppd, and the fact that a detoxificant (nac) makes my fog go away. I would recommend it to you to as you clearly need a bit of toxin resilience, if you arent already taking it. So we still have no-one getting hppd from taking drugs post 30 yrs old, though we can't tell if this is just the drug demographic. It's difficult to draw conculsions about age-related hppd vulnerability and ppd from other toxins.
18. visual - as the only post 30 yr old onset hppder so far to reveal themselves you are quite unusual. Im with neptune in being interested in your story.
19. just wondering if younger brains are more susceptible to hppd or just whether younger people are more likely to take more drugs. I remember some years ago after a long drive i would close my eyes and images of the road would flash up. I just drove 9 hours at the weekend and still didnt get this again, suggesting my brain processes better. And the younger brain is more impressionable and hasnt set down its main pathways so strongly. Perhaps if i waited till now, aged 33, to take hallucinogens, i would not suffer hppd? So anyone out there get hppd after, say, 30 years old?
20. it may not directly affect the hppd so much as just make it more bearable by improving your energy and mood. And thanks for that image 2muchmandy - may have trouble sleeping tonight!
21.
dont think its expensive, just the cost of malic acid, epsom salts, olive oil and lemons. The colonic irrigation seems like an optional extra. The science of it looks like bollocks, the 'stones' that are expelled are probly just congealed olive oil. However, stimulating your liver like that may still be beneficial. It's not a case of being sober, but of the liver's ability to get rid of all the crap your body produces/absorbs.

I dont think adrenaline by itself would cause visual disturbance, but sure to be part of the anxiety symptoms. Also adrenals are not part of the kidneys. Still, these things may be linked in unexpected ways (hormonal or nervous).
