Greetings everyone,

I'm new here. I reside in Mississippi. I've had HPPD for a few years now. I have been a frequent guest to this site and finally decided it was about time to join. I had hoped for a long time that my HPPD would vanish if I quit my use/abuse of LSD and mushrooms (especially LSD). I have finally come to terms that it will not. For the longest time, I did not believe HPPD existed, and certainly not that it could happen to me. I know so many people who have always done tryptamines and phenethylamines and never developed it. So I figured why would I? But I did. I've been working to find a way to get past the severe depression and anxiety I feel with every passing day through natural means. I do not want to take any drugs. I have been addicted to drugs since the age of 5 (I was placed on several drugs at my doctors recommendation for anxiety and depression that we later discovered were addictive and had nasty withdrawl effects, as well as regular side effects for me). That was when I had my first taste of the highs and lows of prescription medications and coming off of them. I stay as far away from them as possible now, but if they work for you then that is wonderful. Does anybody know anything that may help me with my depression and anxiety? I have tried St. John's Wort (it made me suicidal, I attempted to kill myself within one month of daily use). I am currently trying 5-HTP. However, it makes my HPPD worse. Nothing too bad though... My visuals consist of spinning of objects. Things appear to get closer then further away. Ripples of my surroundings. The ground bleeds together. I see leaves on trees as words and letters. I see smiles spinning all over the place. No halos or anything of that nature that I have heard people discuss though. It has gotten to where I now have difficulty speaking and thinking properly. Everything gets jumbled up. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello, welcome to the forum and thank you for adding your story :)

Alas, personally I have not recovered yet, so I can't exactly comment on how to do so.
However, there's a general consensus on what does seems to help. In a nutshell: Exercise, relaxation, meditation, B-vitamins and other general-health supplements like a decent multi-vitamin and Fish Oil.
If you search the forum, you'll find other supplements that have personally helped people, although you won't find (m)any accounts of them actually curing people.
Others that seem to help people are Magnesium and NAC for example. 5-HTP doesn't really seem to do much from what I've seen and experienced. Alternatively, if you're going down the amino acid route, try DL-Phenylalaline, L-Tyrosine, L-Tryptophan, or a combination thereof.

I read that you'd rather not take any drugs/pharmaceuticals. This is fine, as it's your personal choice after all. Just keep in mind that there are accounts of people having benefit from them, some as far as total remission. However, indeed also accounts of them worsening symptoms, sometimes past cessation of them. Hence it would be a good idea that if you were to decide on trying a drug, to cross-reference here for experiences.

You might want to check out the Supplements That Work thread as a start. Other than that maybe other members might be able to recommend things as well.
All the best,
odisa

Howdy.

I really like what Jay threw your way.

The body is a system, which needs to be well maintained and balanced in order to function properly. I advice deprivation, before medication. I think medication is great, but you have to first fix your intake of all nutrients before you can begin to observe any effect. I have no prior knowledge of you, I am simply speaking from experience.

Thank you for all the help guys. Lately, I have gone back to trying St. John's Wort. It didn't work previously but it seems to be helping a lot with my anxiety, depression, and DP/DR lately. I added DHA, basic multivitamins, and made changes to my diet. I cut back on cigarettes drastically. I have seen lessening of symptoms. They come back when I feel very stressed though, and I have felt quite stressed this last week. Sorry for dropping off the face of the Earth for a while there. I recently reenrolled in school, and work full time. My schedule has been quite hectic. Been exercising more too. The only problem is, when I exercise my symptoms get really bad for a few hours to a few days. I feel foggy and confused, everything gets further and closer from me at the same time. Objects that touch walls appear to have large areas of space behind them. Tracers. Auditory hallucinations (bubbling sounds, echoes, random static, etc). And lots of visual static or spots. Every now and then I see colorful lines just appear from nowhere. They like to spiral and swim in front of me. I'm trying to decide if I should just stop exercising all together, or just cut down the intensity. But if I don't exercise my depression gets awful.

I have the same problem Shaman. The more I exercise the more intense my visuals get although my DP and DR goes away. Exercise helped with restoring my bodily sensations. But the visuals get so intense sometimes it almost feels like I am tripping but my pupils are completely normal when it happens and I don`t experience any psychedelic euphoria. Its so confusing lol

Brake, I know what you mean. I don't get the euphoria at all. I'm stuck at quite the opposite lately, I'm afraid. I constantly feel depressed, nervous, and on the verge of anger. I feel like I'm going completely insane. Everything still sounds like I'm peaking, really bad... Last night I layed awake in bed for 3 hours unable to sleep because I kept hearing all these sounds. It sounded like I was surrounded by water and all of it was boiling. Or like their were UFO's surrounding my house. It gets kinda frightening. I'm starting to wonder if this is just HPPD, or if I awakened some dormant form of psychosis that was bound to develop anyways. My parents told me I have always been a little "off". And I was already diagnosed with some mental disorders (depression, anxiety, possibly bipolar disorder but that one wasn't diagnosed, just suspected), I'm starting to wonder if their was maybe more lying beneath the surface that I brought out.

Kanna - been using only 3 days takes a while to kick in real good.....like it so far(the bag says it is 10x stronger then st johns wort idk why it is compared to st johns tho)

Kratom - A ton of people swear by this some say it is addictive some say it is not, I use it but not long and it is iffy, it is a opioid.

Maral Root - Read a ton of great stuff about it, suppose to be like anabolic steroids without the side effects, anabolic steroids are fucking awesome you feel like a million bucks on them. Read up on this one because even though it is compared to anabolic steroids(which I am sure it doesn't work the same or near as good) it has none of the side effects, I even read it clears acne so that goes to tell you how opposite it is when it comes to side effects but the positives are there. This is definitely one of my next orders

Maca powder - Don't know much about it but the hype is there so something to look in to. I want to try this and need to do more research but not at the top of my list, but for all I know I am missing out on something better then anything else I have tried

There are more common ones like kava and valerian root. Also Lutein and Zeaxanthin which is good for your eyes, not sure what it will do if anything at all, I just started taking and only grabbed it because I read it is good for photophobia. The normal stuff like fish oil and a multivitamin.

There are nootropics too which you can find a great deal of information about them around here.

And the only pharmaceutical I would recommend is Gabapentin.

And realize none of these are miracle drugs(some will say they are but I won't make a bold claim like that), some of them are so subtle it is annoying, but you got to work with it and be happy with some slight relief.

U know I think a lot of peeps and doctors have these feelings mixed up in terms of order. Like I don't get anxiety first then the visuals like after images, visual snow, channel vision, blue squiggly lines, tinnitus, tracers, trails, ect. I get the visual symptoms first and when it gets to be to complexed for my brain THEN the anxiety kicks in THEN the depression follows and dp/dr on the end note. If I didn't ducking hallucinate every minute I would b okay totally. I personally know this because when I first got this sess pool of diseases (thank u Jesus and praise the lord hallelujah) it was tolerable and I really never got anxiety I had a bit of the visuals here and there with a toast of tinnitus again (praise the lord thank u Jesus hallelujah)I'm obviously being sarcastic in the parentheses typed here. On a serious note it really was okay in my early years of taintment. Contrary to my belief it was when the PROGRESSION of my visual and audio disorders transitioned into immeasurable anxiety and uncontrollable panic that flew through the roof up into the stars around the galaxies and into the black hole just ask Buck Rogers in the movie Battle Star of Galatica. Thanks man!! Anyways Um SHAMAN there is a tincture loaded with Cannabidiols that are non-psychoactive that is completely organic and holistic. I'm venturing into this within the next week. I feel its safe because we all ready have Endo-Cannibidiols in us that fight off diseases and disorders just some E.c.b.d's are locked up inside of us and can't correct our imbalances so the infusion of these c.b.d's will assist in the correction of anxiety and panic as well as P.T.S.D. and hopefully H.P.P.D. I will post my results positive or negative on here for those who are concerned. I've been battling this gift for 24 years and still counting. To afraid of the pharmaceutical conventional drugs don't trust the F.D.A. at this present moment.

Hi - I'm new to this forum, but not new to HPPD.  I first started with it **40** years ago!  I have some experience.  Here's my advice:

** I had very limited success with natural supplements, and even went as far as eating eggshells to help boost my calcium levels.  Yuck.  But eating well should be a basic part of any recovery.  High-protein, high-vegetable, low-carb diet.

** One thing that seemed to help a lot was walking.  Seemed like no matter how bad it got, I could walk, hike, etc., and it at least helped keep me looking at the scenery and not the other crap going on in my visual field.

** For medication, I found a lot of relief taking valium back in the day.  Yes it made me sleepy and dopey, but it was the only thing that helped reduce the anxiety at the time.

** I had a severe depression and got diagnosed antidepressants and an anti-seizure medication.  I think it's had a really helpful long-term effect.

** Had a nasty time with the antipsychotics.  I'd stay away from them.  Horrible stuff.

** Find a therapist you can go to who specializes in PTSD!  I went to a guy for many trauma experiences, starting with my HPPD.  He helped me a great deal.  Do it!  We used a technique called EMDR, as well as relaxation and imagery recordings.

Let me know if I can be of further help.
