decentguy
Hello, I'm 22 years old. I've never had any drugs in my life. Last week I took LSD and had a bad trip (extereme anxiety and discomfort). I got through it. But then now, after a week, few days ago, I woke up in the middle of the night with a panic attack so I called an ambulance and went to the hospital. I had to wait a lot there but eventually I felt better. They gave me IV and anti anxiety drug (Ativan) there and prescribed me one, which I take when being extremely anxious. It's helping a lot. Yesterday I went to sleep peacefully. I did say to the doctor that I've tried LSD (it was actually my first time to do drugs; and the last of course). But now every now and then I feel anxious (sometimes very sometimes a little anxious). The Ativan is helping. But all this is new to me. I don't want this to last. I have a good life. I'm a student and a musician and I consider myself a decent guy. LSD was a one time thing and I regret it. My problem is mainly anxiety. I do experience visual distortions sometimes late at night but nothing too distracting. I'm definetly going to see a doctor tomorrow and see where it goes from there. Any tips or advice so I can go back to my normal life? I don't want to feel anxious anymore. Any help is appreciated guys and thank you so much, I wish everyone here the best in life and I'm excited to join this community Edited August 6, 2018 by decentguy
Jay1
My advice is to just relax and see where it goes over the next few weeks. Be very wary if a doctor tries to put you on any more meds, especially SSRIs or anti psychotics, which can make hppd worse. It is very likely you will recover naturally, just eat well, exercise, and try to distract yourself from the worry. There is nothing wrong with using the ativan every day for a short period, 2-3 weeks... This might help your body/mind get over the shock of the lsd. But if you don;t need it everyday, even better. Good luck, Jay

Good luck, Jay Thank you Jay!! I'm taking Ativan 2 times a day when necessary. I just want this to end and go back to my normal life. The visual distortions are less now just anxiety. Why would a doctor put me on SSRI if they know it'll make it worse? Thanks for the reply
Jay1
The chances are a doctor (even a specialist) will have next to no idea about the subtleties of a condition caused by LSD. Doctors are fallible and will often misdiagnose and/or lazily prescribe something like an SSRI to help the anxiety or an anti psychotic med because you are having strange thought processes. MadDoc
Psychedelics can make us question the very things that keep us grounded. That can be stressful! Stick to the things that keep you focused. Playing music and going to school are excellent activities to keep you engaged. I may have misunderstood what you said, so the following may not be relevant. You mention that you consider yourself to be a decent guy. Taking psychedelics doesn't mean you're suddenly a bad person. I'm sure you're still a decent person. People I've talked to in the past have told me they feel like terrible people because they ingested a mind altering chemical. IMHO, if you're a decent person before you dose, then you're still a decent person. You've just had a dip in the non-ordinary reality pool. Exercise and sticking to a good diet can certainly help (healthy body, healthy mind). For me, staying focused on school, work, my family, hobbies, etc. helped me keep it together. Give yourself some time and I suspect you will start to level out. Hang in there and take care. cosmiccharlie
You'll be fine, just stay away from psychedelics. Like Jay said exercise can really help with anxiety, self worth and overall health. Try and be as healthy as you can, eat well, exercise and get plenty of sleep. Be careful of becoming dependent on pills to take the edge off. Some people absolutely need it but I believe a lot of our society relies too heavily on them. Best of luck!
