I was wondering if some of you also have family members that suffer(ed) from some kind of mental illness.

In my case there is a first hand background (schizophrenia and depression) and I've been prone to depression as well.

So it's something that makes me curious. Especially in regards of HPPD there may be a correlation.

None that I know of, but I did find out that my dad did take lsd in the 60s and had a bad reaction to it, not hppd, but dp/dr like symptoms that last for some months.

My paternal grandfather had some issues.  As the stories go,  he used to "see" ghosts and had occasional fits of rage.  That's all I know about it.

My father, mother, and siblings have have no significant mental health issues. Same with the extended family.

I want to make it clear that not everyone  misfortune enough to have contracted HPPD has family history of mental illness. In fact mental illness and HPPD could be mutually exclusive of one another. The catch is that the neurological damage sustained by HPPD manifests itself mirroring psychiatric disease(s).

Nobody said that everybody with HPPD has a family history of mental illness, so no need to make that clear in the first place.

But I'm very interested in the correlation between HPPD and mental illness you mentioned being mutually exclusive. Is there something to read about?

Mental illness is prominent in my family gene pool. Both my parents and my two siblings have been diagnosed in some way or another. Depression (dysthymia and major), anxiety disorders (panic disorder, GAD, OCD) and substance abuse disorder are diagnosis are shared between us. Unfortunately for me, I was able to add a new diagnosis to the house. I keep in mind that I might be first diagnosed to my knowledge, but misdiagnosis are common.

I have no clue how exactly the history of different diagnosis and situations may relate. I can only suspect the hereditary mental risk factors in general may of made me vulnerable/contributed to getting hppd.
