Danny13 Posted November 18, 2011 Report Posted November 18, 2011 One thing I am having difficulty getting my head around is the timing of the onset of hppd. I had an enjoyable trip on lsd with no problems. Was fine the day after and for weeks after that. Then one morning I woke up with hppd. There was no warning no signs nothing. If hppd was brain damage or changes in neuro plascicity then how can this happen well after the drug has left your body and life is just the same as before? I have had hppd and dp/dr for 18 years after one lsd trip. Symptoms have not changed at all but I have managed to live with them and adapt my life around them. All the best and thanks for your thoughts Danny
John Smith Posted November 18, 2011 Report Posted November 18, 2011 5 months after my last shroom trip i got hit with it as well man, idk, i guess it's latent in the same way that many mental disorders dont pop up until the early-mid twenties...glad you seem to be doin well though man
VisualDude Posted November 20, 2011 Report Posted November 20, 2011 In context of brain injury, this delay phenomenon is call "progressive secondary injury" and is common. Usually it is a few weeks but, as with Boogres, 5 or 6 months has been reported several times.
Danny13 Posted November 20, 2011 Author Report Posted November 20, 2011 thank you for your responses. Yes, mine was about 2 weeks after. So is the current research suggestion hppd is brain injury or an anxiety type state one is unable to click out of?
John Smith Posted November 21, 2011 Report Posted November 21, 2011 I'd say injury...i was never anxious, never had a bad trip, and there are too many perceptual changes to be related with mere anxiety...anxiety for me was more a symptom than a cause.
Br0k3nS41nt Posted November 21, 2011 Report Posted November 21, 2011 It is unlike stroke or encephalitis where there is cell death which can be directly related to how widespread the affected area is, e.g. more paint you huff the more fucked your brain gets. But, HPPD, rather, I believe has to deal with the disinhibition--however this may occur--at synapses which has more to do with whatever is flying around your brain interacting with your brain's organic structure, this is not necessarily related to how big a dose you take and it may take a minute after the initial dose to recognize the symptoms. This I think makes most sense then the I KILLED HALF MY BRAIN, hypothesis.
Comfortably Numb Posted November 28, 2011 Report Posted November 28, 2011 Mine was 5 months after my last trip. One night I was going to bed totally sober, and noticed closed eye visuals. I tried to ignore them for a while, but they got more and more intense. Then I jumped out of bed, worried, and noticed my room was filled with "static" and I went into the hallway and saw that it looked like the light was flickering (it wasn't). The rest is history...
VisualDude Posted November 28, 2011 Report Posted November 28, 2011 C Numb, So you had no visual anomalies for 5 months, then it hit you like this? You mention CEVs are better, what are your other visual symptoms? Especially since you mention symptoms more severe than most members.
alisa Posted March 31, 2012 Report Posted March 31, 2012 Please don't compare my experience to your own. We all seem to have different amounts of damage. I am now 59 yo. I've had HPPD since 2009, last drug use age 30. I did a lot of very strong LSD about age 15 and then mild usage of psilocybin and mescaline. I had some really bad trips that I didn't come down from for days. I would say I had mild visuals from time to time if I smoked weed for instance. I stopped all drugs and alcohol age 30. Oh yeah I had quite a bit of trauma in my whole life and these times impaired my vision and reality. So at 56 I had an extreme surgery and had a horrible time in icu. couldn't breath etc. When I got home I was seeing like hieroglyphics on all light surfaces and walls, felt like not in my own body. Horrible. I can't tell you how many MDs saw me. Finally after 2 yrs I wound up up in a psych unit and this wonderful psychiatrist dxed me in 5 min. It happens very rarely late in life that in cases of Ptsd And this botched med/surg procedure and just different combinations of life events. I developed full blown hppd. For many months it was a nightmare. Finding this sight and for me medication and time helped. I have a great life today. I'm so thankful for all of your stories and hey if anyone is over 50 with this get in touch with me ok.
2muchmandy Posted March 31, 2012 Report Posted March 31, 2012 mine kicked in 8 hours after i had a line of that fake ketamine stuff. i was on mdma, cannabis and had been drinking. when i was coming down, i started hallucinating like on 2cb, was too hot, then cold, shaking uncontrollably and sweating, i thought it was seratonin syndrome. paranoia etc. then over that week it calmed down. and a month on i think its like 70% cured. im hoping mine was a tap on the wrist, saying sort ur life...or this is what ul get
ferret Posted April 1, 2012 Report Posted April 1, 2012 Mine was three weeks after my first shroom trip and two days after smoking a little weed.
windscar Posted April 2, 2012 Report Posted April 2, 2012 I got the day after LSD. It was just like my vision never came back to normal after the trip.
Gmo Posted April 2, 2012 Report Posted April 2, 2012 I got HPPD a couple weeks after my last notable LSD trip but didn't get DP until around 5 to 6 months later. I had pretty much stopped my drug use whenever DP hit, it was weird.
2muchmandy Posted April 2, 2012 Report Posted April 2, 2012 Windscar im the same as u. I just didnt fully come down
Ghormeh Sabzi Posted April 3, 2012 Report Posted April 3, 2012 One month after last drug use (MDMA), I woke up one morning and the snow was just there. Developed and changed over a couple of days, and has remained constant ever since. I then had a severe worsening of symptoms that occured over a week or two, again about one month after last drug use (MDMA again). Onset was in September, worsening happened in December.
nepuinthesky Posted April 3, 2012 Report Posted April 3, 2012 As i mentioned in my introduction my onset was i think three years after my last acid trip alittle bit unusual. but there were symptoms directly after my first salvia trip 6 or 7 years ago which i ignored.
