  1. welcome to the forum

    1) seeing VS 24/7 isnt normal in my opinion but maybe iam wrong.

    2) there is allways hope you havent it for a long time so your chances of recovery are good.

3)live healthy, exercise alot, dont obsess to much about your symptoms and stay away of drugs.

    4) noone can say for sure try to avoid drinkin to the booze. a few beers should be ok.

  2. there is a big spread of severty of toxic encephalophaty. maybe HPPD is only a moderate form. but we see cases of people whose HPPD isnt only visual sometoímes it is accompained by a lot of physical symptoms maybe these cases are a bit "worse". people with a really serve case of toxic encephalophaty has bigger problems than HPPD and it could also lead to death in some cases.

also the most cases of toxic encephalophaty are reported after inhalating "toxins" or with skin contact(which could explain the correlation to LSD) which doesnt mean oral applied drugs couldnt bring a up a toxic encephalophaty.

there are acute or chronic forms which would also match with HPPD.

often toxic encephalophaty is reversible by avoiding the toxin which has caused it but this can take time.

also fitting in this theory are a few storys of people over at the yuku forum (eg. infection, lyme)

  3. i read this article:

    http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/12664374

and these passage made me think of this as a possible cause

Results from neuro-ophthalmic and neurological examinations were normal for the first two patients. The third patient presented abnormal visual fields with preserved visual acuity; electroencephalography was abnormal, suggesting an underlying toxic encephalopathy

dont know if this is related in some way but wouldnt this explain that people without takin drugs are able to develop these symptoms?

have a look at the wiki article

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toxic_encephalopathy

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) analyses have also demonstrated increased rates of dopamine synthesis in the putamen, reduced anterior and total corpus callosum volume, demyelination in the parietal white matter, basal ganglia, and thalamus, as well as atypical activation of frontal areas of the brain due to neural compensation. A thorough and standard diagnostic process is paramount with toxic encephalopathy, including a careful occupational history, medical history, and standardized imaging/neurobehavioral testing. [9]

what do you think about this?

  4. who knows for sure anyhow weed is a hallucinogen. but thats one of the things i hate the most, i would love to be able to smoke a spliff again but i think i will never be able to do it again. i have overdone it all and now iam a bit like on a constant trip so iam telling myself you dont need to smoke weed you are trippin without it. i was in a few situations where someone smoked beside me and i was nearly giving up my sobriety(i love this fucking taste and smell of weed so much). but i thought fuck it you dont now what will happen and i think if i recover iam never able to enjoy weed like i did for the last decade.

maybe we could smoke herbs like Harlequin with low THC lvl but i dont now man.

but i know for sure weed changed my life in a constant and positive way(eg. way of life, thinking) and i know i will never forget the great times i had while smoking this great herb.

  5. Yes, we don't know what genes to check. However, Dr A has opened the door on testing COMT polymorphisms. Probably only useful for research - how would it really affect treatment?

in my opinion there are maybe a few diffrent genes involved. there are a lot of diseasses which are caused by diffrent gene defects, but with the same symptoms.

also maybe in future gene therapy is able to help if the gene is detected. and the most important point i am able to teach my children(hope i will have a lot of children^^) that they could get into big trouble by taking drugs. not in a form "anti drug parents" do and their kids do it because of their propaganda, but in a way of: "maybe you are predisposed to a fucking disorder which can mess up your life completly"

  6. Palming

Bates suggested closing the eyes for minutes at a time to help bring about relaxation.[15] He asserted that the relaxation could be deepened in most cases by "palming", or covering the closed eyes with the palms of the hands, without putting pressure on the eyeballs.[1] If the covered eyes did not strain, he said, they would see "a field so black that it is impossible to remember, imagine, or see anything blacker", since light was excluded by the palms. However, he reported that some of his patients experienced "illusions of lights and colors" sometimes amounting to "kaleidoscopic appearances" as they "palmed", occurrences which he attributed to his ubiquitous "strain" and which he claimed disappeared when one truly relaxed.[15] This phenomenon, however, was almost certainly caused by Eigengrau or "dark light". In fact, even in conditions of perfect darkness, as inside a cave, neurons at every level of the visual system produce random background activity that is interpreted by the brain as patterns of light and color.[4]

its really hard helping you to cope with anxiety i think everyone needs his own coping method. try to chill you wont get mad.

see there are people who doesnt leave their house while there is a thunderstorm outside. they think they are safe staying at home. and then a lightning fucks up their flat. the quintessence of this stupid example is worrying to much cant safe you of being fucked up, but it could also prevent you from seeing the rainbow.

  7. Until a bunch of HPPDers get gene testing done, we don't know about the connection with genes. What we do know is most people who use drugs do NOT get HPPD.

yeah thats true, but i think its impossible to get all genes checked so there must be a selection of genes which could be involved and i could imagine this finding could encircle maybe a few possible genes.

like there are a few other meds which seem to have an effect on some people like flunarizine maybe this is also helpful to isolate possible involved genes.

  8. i have a few questions because i havent the time to research alot these days.

do you think these findings suggest that HPPD is a gene problem?

is there a problem with our COMT-gene? i read on a german site, that there are assumptions shizophrenia "triggered" by cannabis is caused by a problem with the COMT-gene.

and if so, is there a possibility to affect these gene without "hardcore" drugs like these COMT-inhibitors?

  9. The case of nepuinthesky is even stranger than mine. I dont believe in the theory of a "trigger" of HPPD. What is HPPD? a bomb hidden in the brain?

If you look dpselfhelp.com, the depersonalization tends to be triggered by specific events, if the HPPD is an imbalance or brain damage, it will not remain hidden for years and suddenly appear when he wants.

hey mate, to clear this up a bit. i had alot of warning signs shortly after my first salvia trip every pattern tends to move and melt i had floating colors in the dark(which disapeard after the other symptoms kicked in), snow in the dark and with closed eyes, ehen i waslooking at a digital screen on a radio for example i saw the numbers of the time shortly after they change. but i ignored all this and was still smoking weed. then there was a time whith stress, alk, weed, antibiotics and watching my sight i developed more symptoms. i think the weed was the main cause for making my symptoms worse.

but also if i remember correctly somebody posted a text about gene silences because of LSD maybe this is the cause of developing HPPD with a delayed onset.

  10. yeah i really believe that could be helpful i saw a show on tv where a woman was hypnotized and thought a fast food restaurant was one of the best restaurants with one of the best chef in the world till she was "re-hypnotized"^^

but i dont think somebody is able to hypnotize me i feel so grounded i cant give somebody the control about me.

would be like this i think^^

  11. I wonder with longer term HPPD (6 months or more) if cortical loops develop. Then as the person gets better (repair of synaptic damage, gene expression, etc) they now have 2 pathways for the same function. How does the brain resolve this? Do they remain stuck in the 'patch' until something kicks up activity in original neurons?

hmm could this be comperable to people who grow up since birth with two languages both languages are placed in the same language center. but for people who learn a second language later in life this second language is located in another part of the brain.

haha hope this is understandable sometimes i think my second language is placed outside of my brain^^ but iam writing additionally for my last exam tomorrow my brain is a bit like a blobfish today^^

  12. hmm if i remember correctly your brain regrows/replaces neurons up to every 5 years. so i think there is a chance to recover if you have it a long time. but if there is a problem with our genes i think the chance for recovery is very low. who knows for sure whats goin on in our brain but its able to repair some damages on its own, so we shouldnt give up hope. i read storys about persons developing palinopsia and after a few years they awekened one morning and it was completly gone, but sadly thats not the norm .

but i believe no matter which form of damage it is it seems to be reversible, or i have to say i hope so^^

  13. do you think the damage happend to you is a form of chemical inbalance?

Not sure what you mean in this context. Now I have always been an anxious person and it is known that anxiety and depression increases chances of most neurological disease, including toxic encephalitis. Chronic stress is damaging to mind and body - a predisposition

I would love to see if I have a "COMT polymorphism" - worth checking into for research purposes. (again this would be limited to insurance $$$)

Specialist in "Environmental and Occupational Medicine" are familiar with this stuff. I was puzzled about 'allergy' that caused problem and asked about it. Was told they use the word 'sensitivity' because it isn't a true allergy, rather the brains immune system has been damaged and its ability to resolve toxic load is significantly reduced. So, in this context as well, chemical imbalance would apply in that the metabolic pathways can no longer work correctly.

i wanted to ask which form of damage you assume because there is no "detectable" damage in any scans. but i think you allready answerd it with your post.^^

did you ever contacted Dr Abraham and told him your story? i think it could be really usefull for his research.

  14. @brendan: mate look up the visualsnowforum there are a lot of people who develop these symptoms in older age. but the most people there are 16-26, too i think.

also here is a member who developed it with over 50 if i remember correctly but after complications while/after surgery.

@visual: so no detectable brain damage showing up on MRT or CT? do you think the damage happend to you is a form of chemical inbalance? Did you have a SPECT?

  15. really strange for me its only my hands leaving a trail or get a bit like multiple copies while waving. everything which is more than 50 cm away normally dont leave trails behind it. also it only happens infront of dark backgrounds

btw. the eifel is a real nice place with its hairpin turns makes a lot of fun driving there up an down.

  16. wow that sounds really strange in some way^^, because the most of my symptoms kicked in while i was renovating my house

what doesnt mean iam connecting this two happenings but its a bit strange.

but i think your case shows us that there are many diffrent ways to develop this symptoms. i read a story of somebody at the visualsnowforum who developed it after gettin de-frost spray(dunno if this is the right term) into his eyes.

this let me think if maybe special chemicals are involved and maybe it isnt the drug itself maybe its the way the drug is laced? and we react in another way to this chemical. maybe this is why there are no native americans who say they are having HPPD because of the use of mescaline. dont think self collected peyote are laced^^

as we know the most chemical drugs are contaminated in some way.

i can really understand that this is depressing because i allways told myself you have done this to your mind/body and i can handle this because my drug time was a great time. i know there are people who have problems because of the guilt question but for me it isnt.

the other person you are talkin about having HPPD symptoms is he recovered or does he still have this?

is the "damage" done to your brain detectable in some way? or is it like for the most here not showing up in any test?

  17. i cant speak for the slow frame rate thing but afterimages and trails dont prevent me from driving aswell as halos or starbursts. iam also able to drive at night. there are people who are very nearsighted who are able to drive i think they have alot more trouble seeing things at night like i have.

you are young maybe that is a bit troublesome but HPPD teached me to live the moment. dont obsess about the future. since HPPD hit me i am clubbing every friday yeah i only drink 3-4 beers but i think i didnt need the booze anymore. dancing is my new drug^^

  18. muhaha my friend the blobfish if i see this pic a few times more i search a resturant where i am able to eat it^^

i had problems withmy last 3D movie i saw ghosting like you see without the 3D-Glasses but i saw a few 3D movies and this was the only film where i had these probs maybe it was because of the films quality or i had a bad day.

  19. for me it was three years after my last acid trip(think thats really uncommon). but i had mild HPPD direktly after my first trip ever. you have to live healthy and avoid drugs like cannabis and too much alk which i didint do.

Furthermore, Horowitz acknowledges other factors known to exacerbate HPPD. Horowitz identified physical stress and marijuana as two factors that can precipitate and increase HPPD symptoms after a delayed onset stating, “Marihuana [sic] ssecobarbital (Seconal), physical fatigue, or stress may produce a state in which flashbacks from previous LSD ‘trips’ are more likely to recur.” Horowitz identified key features in 1969 that remain foundations for an accurate diagnosis of HPPD today.

    source: http://hppdonline.com/index.php?/topic/306-history-of-hppd-section-2-of-5-available-in-pdf/

you can choose delayed onset because of my excesive psychodelic use in the past or cannabis as a trigger, but i was smoking weed from 16 to 25 on a daily basis so i think the second option is not really the cause.
