  1. to clear this up iam thankfull that there are doctors making a study. and i also ever said that i believe the mechanism is the same only the trigger is diffrent. but as i posted in this thread i think these doctors try to coin a new term for an allready existing disorder.

also they didnt seem to use the existing research about HPPD or PMA. they are doing the same scans hundreds of dr. allready did and which didnt showed up any result(MRI,PET). it would be more interessting to see if somebody with PMA or VS has the same results in qeeg like someone with HPPD or if someone with PMA or VS could also have success with COMT-inhibitors. this would show us if this is the same mechanism behind these disorders. also saying its not connected to drug use is simply wrong and a slap in the face of us HPPDer and dr. abrahams work in my opinion.

  2. Now that i have learned that.........if these receptors do regenerate, how long does it take??

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Possible Neurobiological Causes of HPPD:

    1. Neurochemical Imbalance (transmitter depletion, etc)

    2. Channel Abnormality (Ca, K+, etc)

    3. Receptor Recycling Aberration

    4. ? ? ? ? ? ?

    4. Gene expression which could be caused by several things first like mentioned in this thread because of calcium channel "dysfunction" on second due to LSD on its own:

    http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/12654518

  3. I don't mean to criticize. I'm just having a hard time understanding it myself. .........Let's try to understand one thing at a time (and this may not be totally related to Ca channel or 5-HT2 receptors): do receptor usually come and go, die off and regenerate, wash away and regrow?

......Generally, I don't think so but this is just based on what I know. Find me some evidence.

hmm i think receptors can die down look at parkinson. they can also burn out. i dont know if they are able to regenerate but maybe they are only more sensetive than before so it could be possible to get back the old working standard.

neurons cant regrow you have the same number since you are born

  4. Ive taken the calcium channel blockers and I want to say that I have seen SOME relief of anxiety but I would say that its to early to say. I hope that more of you will try this out and report back. My veins are definitely popping out though haha.

if i remember correctly you have to take them up to 6 month to see if they are the "cure" for your case.

edit: it should be stopped after 6 month and then only be taken again if you symptoms re-occur but it should take a while to help

  5. Dopamine receptor burnout was never mentioned im not sure where your getting that from? I was referring to synapse burnout, due to overabundance of electrical current flow that is allowed with superagonists

The eyes are just sensory receivers, they bring in electrical frequencies in which the brain interprets and literally builds a three dimensional view of whats coming in from the two eyes. The problem most definitely has to be in the brain, I highly doubt that it is cause by a chemical imbalance, as there are enough drugs that have been tried that would effect the imbalances to the point where it would be found what the imbalance would be.

na i didnt meant this thread i spoke about the previous threads where we discussed why sinemet seems to help. also the comt inhibitors affect dopamine i dont know maybe this is showing where the imbalance is found? or the dopamin is only helpful because of its affect on brain damage in general. but that wouldnt make sense since in dr a. study up to 50% or more were symptom free after taking the trail for a few hours.

  6. i believe that calcium channel blockers could be one of the importants drugs to fight HPPD. alot of people with PMA got cured because of them. i read a lot of german migraine boards where people confirm this.

and i also do believe that the prob is not only found in our brains it must be more global than this because alot of our symptoms are created in the eye itself(negative afterimages, halos, starbursts, floaters, ghosting). a while back i posted an article about visual disturbances (HPPD?) caused by cannabis:

    http://ucsdnews.ucsd.edu/newsrel/health/potpnas.htm

calcium channels seem to play the major role here.

but also serotonin is found in the nerves of the eye they are responsible of the intraocular pressure. funny because my presure is a bit elevated since the onset of HPPD.

i also dont believe that "dopamine receptor burnout" or something like this is root cause because alot more peolpe who had only taken speed or coke would be members of this forum.

so in my opinion it seems to be a chemical imbalance maybe to much or less serotonin in the ratio to dopamin caused by something which controlls this maybe the calcium channel blockers.

also calcium channels are involved in the regulation of gene expression maybe this is the key

  7. I have wobble, but not snow.

    lol

i had wobble before snow. but the wobble looks like snow maybe you mean something diffrent visual?

if your wobble are like tiny dots which are tingling in a corner you can imagine how VS does look alike

for me its also mostly where to corners meet each other.

this leads me to a question whichis maybe a bit offtopic.

is your snow directly infront of your eyes?

the most people on the VSforum report the snow is covering everything for me its mostly an walls or backgraounds. the most thinks which are close to me arent covered with snow.

  8. thanks for sharing the article

haha now i can use the little dutch i had on elementary school^^

but iam able to understand the most.

hmm i think its possible this guy recovered because of time which part the melantonine plays you cant say for sure.

its not mentioned which effect the melantonine has directly after the intake, isnt it?

he said after 1 1/2 year he is free of depression, anxiety and DPDR but still has visuals but they have improved.

a lot of people report recovering even without meds after a few month or years.

for me it seems to be the same, no mental comorbid diseases. they disapeared after the first month(s), also my visuals seems to have improved after my onset 10 month ago.

i think melantonine is realy good for all HPPD sufferer who didnt get enough sleep, which is a important step to recovery. but as mentioned before there is sometimes a (temporary) increase in visuals.

lol i think thats my worst english post i ever made its very hard to translate dutch to german and than respond in english now my brain is messed up^^

  9. but you only had an VEP-test right?

i think the diffrences only show up on a qeeg not in the VEP.

i think the normal VEP test dont show any significant results you have to compare it with a databank or a controll group.

    http://www.visualsnow.com/information/research/pdfs/abraham46-56.pdf

here is the study of dr. a. if i understand correctly the diffrences only show up if you compare it with the controll group.

i read alot of storys at the yuku forum where people had an VEP test and in the most cases it showed up nothing a few was positive but the most werent.

i think the diffrences in the VEP is to slight to show up.

the visual field test i have done was also fine but i found it hard with these small blue dots and HPPD didnt know exactly what was an afterimage or an actual blue dot.

  10. yeah thats right but as it seems in some cases not in all dopamine seem to have a benefit on the symptoms.

see iam not saying PD and HPPD are related but people with PD also benefit from dopamine.

you have to outwight the side effects of drugs and not everyone who is taking sinemet for example develops psychotic symptoms. and if you do you can stop it and your brain wont stay in the psychotic state because the more of dopamine isnt there anymore after stop taking these drugs.

one of the most important things is take low doses with HPPD.

  11. L-dopa is just an amino acid the body makes into dopamine. Doubt it could cause any permanent psychosis. Mine went away after I stopped it.

I don't really get the fascination with dopamine for hppd lately. Antipsychotic drugs mostly block dopamine receptors. Hence, too much dopamine is associated with psychosis.

hmm? sorry if i dont get what you mean by this. but first i think the most people with HPPD dont have any form of psychosis. second maybe that is why the most people report worsening after taking antipsychotics?! and third look up dr a. newest publication

hehe but as i said maybe i misunderstand your post...

  12. yesterday news told that the nurburgring is insolvent. :(

i dont know how long it stays open for puplic driving maybe you check out the website.

really sad that the government didnt give a few euros to help this great place staying alive. motorsports are a big part of the german culture. but the government gives the whole money to rescue the european union.

  13. dont know but maybe its too early for meds?

maybe you should wait and if HPPD isnt gone in a few month you can think of meds again

all these meds have side effects and sometimes they outwight the benefits.

but its your discission maybe its better to start treatment early who knows for sure.

but firstly you have to be sure that your neuro is on your sight and dont puts you on the standard doses of these meds, for HPPD starting with a low dose is always better you can increase your dose if you dont have any benefits.

but also it seems that diffrent kind of visuals need diffrent meds so becareful if only a few symptoms are afected by one med.

  14. it was normal absithe you can buy in a shop. so the psychodelic effect is to low to make you trip. you have to make your own if you want to trip. but i think in spain you can buy absinthe with more thujon (the psychodelic ingriedient(sp?)).

so no effect on my HPPD but while drinkin it i thought maybe this could act as a low dose trip(i read alot of storys of people where HPPD disappeard after a low dose trip).

maybe i will drink more the next time^^ but i dont beleave that this is gonna changing anything.

but as i said before my symptoms are less noticeable when iam drinking afterimages lasts less than a second dont know why but thats my experience maybe the affect on gaba dunno

  15. alot really alot of weed. the day before it got worse i was really drunken + only two hours sleep.

also i was the day before in a dinner in the dark and was 3 hours in a pitch black room which made me panic a bit. i was also really high (weed) while this dinner which made me trip. i saw floating colors everywhere

furthermore i was in a really stressful period.

so i cant say for sure but i blame the weed but i dont think it was only the weed
