after image ilusion in my child hood

i remember i went with school in my childhood to a illusion house there was a twisting spiral they asked to look for 10 sec and imeadedly look to the wal i saw the after image en twisting of the spiral in the wall for a sec buth the same did not happend for every body so can this be that we are sensetive to trigger hppd for who thiss illusion works?

There is cells within the eye that sense movement, watching the spiral thing (or on YT) can tire those neurons out, so when you've looked at it long enough the eye continues to see the movement but not register it. So the "movement" that is happening afterwards is just your brain catching up with what the eyes failed to present to it in good enough time.
