I have a cavity filling and the standard anesthetic is Novocaine. Has anyone had experience with this? If this won't work out, I will probably ask a psychiatrist for an opiate of some sort.

Absolutely no problem at all with Novocaine! Anesthetics are local nerve tranquilizers, analgesics (opiates) are CNS tranquilizers.

A bit unnecessary to numb out the whole body, when only a small area needs to be numbed out, right?

Anyways, they will inject Novocaine straight into the nerve which is connected to the area which needs to be fixed. You'll get numb in the tounge and half of the lower face, it'll make you talk a bit funny and drewl for some hours, due the numbing of the sensory and motoric nerves.

There are no CNS effects at all from this type of anesthetic injections.

If you snort, smoke or IV the anesthetic (like cocaine) there will be CNS effects, but that's another story completely.. ;-)

Bottom line is: there is nothing to worry about!

Hmm yes! I always get sunglasses to wear.

It is very hard to lie under such a strong light for such a long time with HPPD.

You'll feel a lot better afterwards if you wear them!

Opiates are no problem if it would be needed.

General anaesthetics (N2O in particular) would be the things to avoid.

Also, make sure that they don't start drilling before the Novocaine fully has numbed the affected area out. They can sometimes begin too early..

415_STYLEE, thank you, this makes me happy more than you know. I too was wondering if local would have any interaction with the CNS.

Bless you, kind sir.
