raincat Posted December 18, 2024 Report Posted December 18, 2024 I asked my doctor about getting a service dog today, she thinks it is an excellent idea and will give her approval to an organization who can provide me one. It takes a long time to get one but I'm sure it will be worth it. It's something I considered before I got my drug induced problems too. If you have crippling anxiety and/or PTSD with your HPPD, a service dog may be able to help. They can perform tasks to help distract from episodes and help you feel safer. And, they are not a medication! I have benefitted greatly from my meds but I think I have reached my limit on adding and changing them. It's maybe not the type of help you would immediately think of, so I am saying this to put it into anyone's awareness who has not thought about it and may benefit. I hadn't thought about a psychiatric service dog until someone I met in a psych ward a couple years ago who has one recommended it to me.
Spartan Posted December 19, 2024 Report Posted December 19, 2024 That's is awesome and very cool . I've always wanted a puppy. A beautiful companion. I'm.sure there would be so much benefit in building a strong bond and connection with your new buddy. This is a really cool and great idea, very therapeutic indeed.
