Are magnesium supplements safe to take with hppd? will it make my symptoms worse? wanting to try it for tmj pain, there is a bit of evidence suggesting it could reduce some types of muscle pains and i am trying to approach the pain with as many things that might safely help it as possible. i am relying on ibuprofen to manage it right now which is not good long term.

Magnesium is safe for HPPD and it alleviates anxiety slightly and it's healthy for you.

I want to follow up on this post and see if anyone on this board is actively taking magnesium and if it helps?

I've been reading a bit about it on random places and see there are at least three types of magnesium, one of which is a laxative!  I'm not willing to trade floaters and starbursts for regular diarrhea, thank you ;)  I've had stomach issues my whole life that I don't need aggravated.

Some people claim that it REALLY helps them with all sorts of stuff including visual snow from both the VSS and HPPD boards... is this for real or placebo? Can we get some more info here?  I also read one lonely post of a person feeling worse from magnesium, almost as if it did major damage.  These posts should not be trivialized since if there is even a 1% chance I will get permanent damage from magnesium I'm never going to try it.

@Jay1 you took this at one time; any help, and why did you stop?  Thanks.

Was fine for me and I still take it as part of my multi vitamins. No idea if it really helps, but never made me feel worse.

I took magnesium L-threonate for a couple months but I didn’t see any effect. If you do want to give it a shot, L-threonate is probably the one you want to go for since it crosses the blood brain barrier readily.

I take magnesium presently through a multivitamin like Jay and it does nothing... maybe that L-threonate is the one that would theoretically make a dent - but that you and others here don't get any effect from it dampens any hope.

Going to guess that it helps those for whom magnesium is low in the first place...

I'm lately thinking in terms of VSS and HPPD having symptoms in common and considering VSS treatments for HPPD, that's where I began thinking about this.  There was a vote on reddit (yeah, not a fan but there is a lot of info there) and it looks like 7 of 52 people said it helped them, also dose of 400 mg for citrate, maybe 200 is too little.
