what am i supposed to do?

Recommended Posts

neither of my parents talk to me, i have no job living on my long time friend's dad's couch, in the middle of a job desert, i have no money or health insurance.

my mental health between untreated ADD, DP/DR, VSS, migrane, and whatever the fuck else has, at this point, begun to disable me in my day to day life.

worst part is, i literally cannot see a doctor about it. dont have enough for the out of pocket fees or anything, and i have no other avenues or support systems for money to come in. am i cooked?

i dont think i qualify for any kind of subsidized insurance either (if that even exists in america), and either way, the government already makes it deliberately hard to get free / affordable things from them, so god knows how long that would take. i just feel helpless.

Depending on your State and age, it's possible to get subsidized help in the USA.  Are you looking for disability or food stamps / SNAP, or Medicaid?  Those are the two biggest programs... there is also a Cash Assistance program but it's for families to my understanding, not individual people.

honestly, friend'd dad said he could cover food for me just fine, which is a fucking blessing. at this point i just want a goddamn doctor, so id want medicaid, but in the state of FL, unless you are already declared disabled (near certain i could be, but i'm not) or have a kid, its about impossible. the offices down here are real shitty too, never any help.

Hello, so sorry to hear about your situation ☹️ Have you tried applying for disability? I only ask because I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and eventually had to apply. The only caveat is that you have to have worked at the same place for at least 5 years and made a certain amount of money. The disability lawyer is completely free and you only have to pay them some-odd percent if you are awarded disability, not much. Also you get back pay. I got $17,000 back pay and I think I only had to pay the lawyer $3000 if I’m remembering correctly, this was over 10 years ago. The disability payments are not big. I am very blessed because I have a supportive husband who has a good job and takes care of our family. I know a lot of people aren’t that fortunate and I pray for them. I live in OR though, which is all liberal and so much help is available it’s crazy (in a good way.) I think the south has the worst mental health care. I’m from TX, moved up here when I was 17, and I know how it is. I have no idea if what I wrote was even remotely helpful. I tend to meander and get off topic.

Federally there are two types of disability coverage - one tied to employment with a greater amount of income possible, and the other a more general disability coverage with fixed income.  I think the state does not matter, but I wouldn't be surprised if the southern states made it as hard as possible, given how much they care about the public over there.

Pennsylvania has become much better and more humane starting with Tom Wolf and Josh Shapiro.  I wouldn't wish to live in a Republican state to anyone with HPPD or any illness in general.

Lmao! I lived in Florida for 13 months and it wasn't so bad although I only lived off of my earnings (measly earnings). I went back north to where I have more family and friends. Ironically that girl that started the successful visual snow campaign is from Florida but Miami is it's own world like NYC. But I can only imagine in other southern states. Once I was in South Carolina in this like southern food buffet place and I don't remember what town it was but after I ate and paid, some southern woman out of nowhere said not to come back here and then they were like "but why?" Because I looked at her like WTF and I felt like they were mean. So she says "people out of state bring in the drugs". Meanwhile I was like super sober, eating healthy, not drinking alcohol either because I was doing races, driving long distances and trying to like get the best score possible in the race. I had no drugs in my system or in the car. I actually just finished a race a few days ago. So I can only imagine what it would be like to live in a Republican state like South Carolina with HPPD and visual snow lmfao. Must be hell. I was excited to try real Southern food too since I'm from the northeast. For the record, I passed every drug test I ever took. Someone in McDonald's in Miami assumed I am a heroin addict and even went as far to say bluntly and loudly that "I don't like him", although I never tried heroin in my life. I guess my disorders make me look weird to straight edge sober people lol. I felt awful lol.

The American Dream is Dead

"The United States of America was built on one main principle: one's inherited socioeconomic status is nothing more than a circumstance of the past that is to be rectified by their true destiny. The U.S. used this simple ideology to propel itself as one of the five great power nations of the world socially, economically and politically. This principle attracted countless immigrants who fled their countries of origin to escape a predestined fate."

"Centuries of strategic American propaganda have done an inconceivably good job at luring immigrants with the promise of a lucrative life built upon the foundations of hope and opportunity. I posit that it's becoming increasingly difficult for the vast majority to achieve Thomas Jefferson's American dream, underpinned by a person's right to the pursuit of life, liberty and happiness."

"In contemporary society, the level of difficulty in achieving the American dream has skyrocketed. This picture-perfect life is visually synonymous with happily married couples with two children, a beautiful home and a white picket fence. However, the reality of this is vastly different. The latest numbers suggest people are no longer getting married, buying homes or having children nearly as much as in previous generations. Wealth disparity is at an all-time high, and divisions continue growing. The American dream is dead."

I have a friend who lives in Idaho with neurological issues and he is getting zero help there... Idaho is not technically a "southern state" but the politicians and people in power there have the same mentality as the fucknuts who govern in states like South Carolina and Florida.  Supposedly southerners are more relaxed and friendly...? I'd like to check that out for myself.  Was in Virginia last year and loved it there.  Would LOVE to go on a tour through all of the so-called southern states, just out of curiosity and for personal edification purposes.  I live in Pennsylania and people here tend to be rude and always in a rush somewhere... but at least they mind their own business (for the most part) and don't force women to give birth or push people off of assistance programs.  Center of the state, Penntucky, is like that (minus State College, very nice place!).. Pittsburgh and Philly at least are good.

Anyway, I hate to go into politics here in these forums.  There are excellent people in every state, no doubt, and HPPD is an equal opportunity illness!  It abides by the EEOC and Civil Rights Act!  Religion, politics, ethnicity... it's all good for HPPD (least as far as I know)

Dude I would not recommend it. I was in Miami and some random woman came in between me and food shopping and she pointed her hand and finger up. I have legitimate money, I try to work and be productive. I don't steal or sell drugs. I was in some liquor store and for some reason the cashier knew where I worked and he made fun of the way I answered the phone. It's like these people want me to starve to death and not let me work. They don't believe in civil rights. I'm never going to South Carolina or Florida ever again. I will also avoid the other southern states because they don't like Yankees and some people are still "fighting the civil war" in their minds lol. In the north you see the civil rights act of 1964 posted everywhere.

I hear you, bro... I would never want to live in any southern state from what I have heard and read.  I hate hot weather and summer, too.  If I move anywhere else, it should be north where it's colder.  But just out of (perhaps morbid) curiosity and to learn more about southern culture I would love to go on a tour through the main capitals, for example, eat some of their food, check out the nature there, the galleries...  I hear you on Florida.  I've been to Florida several times in my life and I'm glad it will sink into the ocean soon.

🤣🤣🤣🤣

Nah sucks for me dude, I love hot weather. And I'm a citizen too. Makes no sense. True bro if you can take it, and handle it and are ready and prepared for it you should be fine especially if your existence won't rely on them.

Your (US) healthcare system is absolutely insane... You should be out in the streets protesting at every opportunity. Healthcare is a human right pretty much everywhere else in the world.

Hope things get better for you, Macro.

And certain people in the USA get mad when they give out free food samples and people consume them lol

I know in majority Democratic states it's relatively easy to get some sort of food stamps and healthcare if your income is at poverty level or below. But rent is so expensive! There is a long waiting line for government subsidized housing and you may never get it. But if you make like less than $12,000 a year and are a citizen then you probably are entitled to food stamps and Medicaid. Check your tax brackets and income eligibility. They have like free homeless shelters in the northeast.

I was born in Houston, TX. Both parents from a small town in OH, moved to TX while my mom was pregnant with me. So I was like this half and half that didn’t belong. I called soda “pop” and other things like that and people turned their noses up at me because I wasn’t from generations upon generations of southerners. And dang, the humidity there is a killer. Worse than the heat. I’d rather have dry heat. Houston was a cool place to grow up in back then and Austin was cool. I moved to WA when I was 17 and I HATED it and was so resentful towards my mother that we moved here. Now…I’m glad I don’t live in TX anymore! Yeesh, guess I escaped a bullet on that one.

Oh and yeah…Florida’s a trip!! My eldest daughter was stationed in Jacksonville for about a year I think. I flew down when my granddaughter was born. People were weird as hell. When I would FT with my daughter, she’d hear a noise or whatever and then be like, “Oh it’s only gunshots” like it was that was the most normal thing in the world!! She’s stationed in San Diego now with my son-in-law and I feel more relieved. When she was in Jacksonville my SIL was stationed in Guam so she was basically pregnant and by herself; she had a roommate that was in the Reserves and also going to college so she wasn’t home much. All I could think of was was two young ladies and a baby living there where apparently people screaming, talking loudly to themselves and shooting being a regular occurrence made me want her outta there ASAP.
